As a kid, not only did I sell Kool-Aid, but I had a real cardboard Kool-Aid stand that I got by selling a whole lot of Kool-Aid and saving the packets to send in. I also ran a turtle farm, a bike repair shop, delivered newspapers, and any thing else I could think of to make money. I guess you could say that I have had the entrepreneurial bug all my life.

After spending many years in the restaurant and retail industry I moved over to the IT / Computer world providing consulting and support to the same restaurant and retail industry that I grew up in. I have spent the last 12 years working with businesses that range in size from the local Mom and Pop corner shop, to the largest national chains with thousands of locations.

Having been one of the very first people to sign up for AOL, I started dabbling with the internet when it was VERY young. Running websites for pretty much my entire adult life.

Joe’s Auto Repair Is Going Out of Business…    How Is Your Small Business Doing?

As a child Joe was obsessed with his cars. He would line up dozens of beaten up Matchbox cars in front of his Fischer Price Garage and pretend he was the mechanic fixing them all.

Joe grew up living in the area. As a kid he went to the local elementary school. As a teenager he played on the high school football team. When Joe was not playing football his passion was tinkering with his metallic green 1972 Ford Mustang in his grandfathers garage. Joe took his high school sweetheart Julie to the senior prom. After graduating from the University with a degree in business administration Joe married Julie in a big family wedding. 13 months later they had a beautiful baby girl with blond hair and blue eyes just like mom.

Rather than entering the corporate world of big business, Joe followed his life long passion and opened a car repair shop on a corner just off of Main Street. Joe advertised his business in the local newspapers, took out a yellow page ad, and ran a few radio spots. Joe’s car repair business was booming. Things were good for Joe and Julie. They had a big house with flowers in front of the porch and a beautiful baby girl. They were living the perfect American dream.

As the years went on customers didn’t come in as frequently as they had in the past.  Some of his regular customers would come back from time to time, but slowly they dropped away to a trickle of business.  This was not good.  Joe talked to the local newspaper and Yellow Page advertising reps about his problems. They encouraged him to take out bigger ads and spend more money. More money that Joe did not have. Joe could not afford to take out the ads if they weren’t bringing in new business.

If things didn’t get better fast Joe was going to have to make some drastic changes. It broke Joe’s heart when he had to let two of his mechanics go. Joe was about to lose everything that he had worked so hard for.   He was scared.  Joe thought, “How can I support my family if my business fails?”

There had to be a way to get more business. A few years back Joe had hired a guy to build a website for his auto repair business.
